Lois Ilene Tveter, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully while under the care of Sanford Hospice in Fargo, on August 13, 2024. She was 81 years old.

Born in Noonan, North Dakota on October 19, 1942, Lois was the daughter of Henry and Ida (Kjelshus) Skarphol. She was baptized in faith at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McGregor, ND and later confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran in Noonan. Lois attended primary and secondary education in Noonan, graduating in 1961. After graduation, Lois spent one year in Minot, ND attending Minot State Teachers College. She then went to work for Burke Divide Electric as a receptionist in Columbus, ND. During this time (1962), she met her forever friend and husband, Dean Tveter. They married in September of 1963 in Noonan and shared 60 memorable years together. They made their initial home in Columbus and moved to Keene, ND in 1965, where they lived at the Texaco Blue Buttes Camp until it closed in 1969. They then moved to New Town, ND, and raised their six children; an achievement that Lois considered one of her greatest.

Upon moving to New Town, Lois opened a daycare where she shared her heart and home with kids and families for the next 55 years! Her love for her former and current families was unbounded; they kept her going and gave her purpose. When Lois wasn’t caring for the kids in her home, she was likely to be seen supporting her grand/great grandchildren at music and sporting events, dance competitions, and pow-wows. She enjoyed spending time with family whenever possible; making memories at the lake or on the water, reading, and catching up with friends on the phone or via social media. She was always smiling and giggled often.

Lois was active within the Bethel Lutheran Church throughout her life. She taught Sunday School for many years, served as supervisor of the Sunday School program, was in the church choir, and most recently, served on the church council. One of her greatest memories within the church was serving twice as a representative at the tri-annual, women’s ELCA convention in Minneapolis, MN, and San Antonio, TX.

Along with using the words “Ooof!” and “Ufda” often, most will remember Lois for her huge heart full of beauty, kindness, and positivity; her gullibility, selflessness, giving nature, and ultimately, her ability to love unconditionally. As heavy as Lois loved, she was loved back, and is sure to be missed by all who knew her. Although the summer has been difficult with losing both Lois and Dean within only two months of each other, the family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited and will have eternal peace.

Lois is survived by her; children, Michael (Heidi M.) Tveter; Roger Tveter; Brent (Tione) Tveter, all of New Town, ND; Michele (Bob Stocking) Endrud, Bismarck, ND; Heidi L. (Ricky) Carns, Fargo, ND; Alissa (Todd) Krueger, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Morgan Tveter, Taylor Tveter, RaeVen Livingston, Haley Tveter, Shotae Tveter, Caitlyn Tveter, Kody Tveter, Asjha Tveter, Rhyleigh Carns, RJ Tveter, Kacyn Endrud, Brody Carns, Jetta Tveter, Tenleigh Carns, Nash, Jeb and Taves Krueger; great-grandchildren Makalie, Morgan Jr, Nayali and Nova Tveter, Keaton and Hadley Smith, Emerson and Eleda Tveter, and La’Rae and Rae’La Livingston; sister, Marilyn Opperud, brother, Terry (Nyla) Skarphol, sister, Holly (Dale) Estvold; sisters-in-law; Pauline Nelson, Marlyne Tveter, Joyce Tveter, Shelly (Clif) Sundt and Cindy Tveter, and many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean Tveter; parents, Henry and Ida Skarphol; grandchildren, Dariann Tveter and Kesley Tveter; and in-laws, Rueben and Hilda Tveter.

A special thank you to Sanford Hospice Care for all the tender, loving care they provided to both Lois and Dean over the past few months; and for their support to the family during this unimaginable time.

Should you wish, memorial donations in honor of Lois can be made to Sanford Fargo Hospice.
